A vintage year - for fish

And so ends another summer of action for Rickmansworth CC. The season has not been without it’s challenges, however it has been great to see so many members / parents pulling together and ensuring that matches could go ahead. I don't want to see another rake though....literally ever again!

Overall, it has been a really successful season for the adult men’s section with three of the four teams winning promotion from their respective divisions. The 4th team won league 11S which will enable the club to enter a 5th team next year and therefore give many more opportunities for game time to our strengthening youth section.

As always at this time of year it is nice to recognise personal landmarks and achievements. The author doesn't want to spoil the announcements on the Awards evening on the 11th October (do NOT miss this) so here are some teasers as to what has been achieved this year

BATTING

  • A well known Ricky opening bat 4,000 Runs
  • A 1st team all rounder 2,000 Runs

whilst the 1,000 run club welcomed

  • Someone who also scored his first 100 for the club;
  • Someone else who has played at the club since the age of 10;
  • and a popular and hard working opening bat from the 4th XI.

BOWLING

It was 150 wickets up for:

  • A left arm spinner of some repute
  • An all-rounder who has been at the club many years
  • A man who has his eye on the money as well as the ball

  • 100 wickets was achieved by a youngster who perhaps is better known for his batting than his bowling more recently

    It was a grand half-century of wickets for the following:
  • A tall left arm youngster
  • A young spinner who also bats
  • A 3rd team player who has got there rather quickly
  • The man, the myth, the stick
  • Another youngster who may be the best in his family

People we can name are Kamber, who scored his 9th century for the club which makes him the leading century maker for RCC based on our existing stats database!

Other century makers for the season were Harvey with his maiden ton (129 vs Knebworth Park) and also Vijay (103 vs Kings Langley). A number of other players fell agonisingly short of three figures, however this will hopefully spur them on for next season!

Six regular players took 5 wicket hauls over the season. Leading the way was Callum Watson-Humphreys with an astonishing 7-31. Following closely behind were Zibyaan Maroof (6-34), Zeeshan Khan (5-6), Anwar Ul-Haq (5-11), Chandru Asokan (5-22) and Aamir Ishaq (5-47).
