The loss of a true club legend

The club are sad to report the passing of former player and club legend Ben Soames who tragically lost his courageous four year battle against cancer earlier this week.

Ben joined the club in 2006 and quickly brought a combative approach to both batting and bowling. He went on to represent every team and racked up 2,518 runs in 117 games. His top score of 112* came in June 2015 when he put on 178 for the 3rd wicket against Shenley Village. A monumental performance that few from that time will forget.

Off the field was equally an area where Ben excelled and he served on the committee for a number of years. He arranged sponsorship for the junior teams and one of his proudest moments was when he managed his son Nathan's team to become Herts County Champions in 2013.

Ben was a kind and caring person and always the life and soul of any get-together. Loved by his team-mates and feared by the opposition, he was a one-of-a-kind character and he leaves a Ben-sized whole in all of our lives. At 57 he has left us all far too early.

We send his friends and family our love and best wishes at this hardest of times. For members who would be interested in attending the funeral, we will share more details as soon as we get them.
